A good movie makes you connect with characters who are portrayed in such a way that you can almost seem to feel what they’re feeling on the screen. The best actors and actresses can draw a lot of emotion from their audiences, and when combined with a top-class movie script, everything that happens comes across as a real situation. It’s these types of movies that are guaranteed to make you cry every single time you watch them.
The Pursuit of Happyness
Released in 2006, The Pursuit of Happyness is a movie based on the true story of a guy called Christopher Gardner. After he invests a lot of time and money into a new medical device that does a similar (but slightly better) job as an x-ray machine, he does his best to sell as many of them as possible. As he is struggling to make the money he had hoped for, his wife decides to leave and he ends up homeless with his son right there on the streets with him. He tries to progress himself by taking an unpaid internship at a big stockbroker firm but, again, he struggles to get what he needs out of the position. The fact that this movie is based on the true story of a real man makes it a whole lot more emotional and will definitely bring tears to your eyes.
My Sister’s Keeper
Imagine finding out you were only born to keep your sister alive. That’s exactly what happens in My Sister’s Keeper as Anna Fitzgerald, at age 11 discovers that her entire existence was planned so she could be a donor to her older sister who has been suffering from leukemia. After deciding she doesn’t want to be used for medical purposes anymore she turns to a lawyer to help her get out of the family. It gets really emotional when things end up in court with the girl's mother attempting to force Anna to help her sister regardless of what she wants to do.
P. S I Love You
When Holly’s husband Gerry dies from an illness, she is left heartbroken. Her life quickly changes from everything she ever wanted into an existence she struggles to make sense of. She didn’t realize though that Gerry had left her a series of messages to be delivered at various points in her life to help her move and to build a new life without him. The messages and Holly’s reactions to them are almost guaranteed to make you cry.
The Notebook
An old man reading a love story to a fellow care home resident with dementia seems like an innocent enough thing to do. As you learn more about the character's past and everything that has led them to that point in their lives though, it will be difficult not to cry. Stories about lifelong love and having to learn how to be apart from each other are always emotional rollercoasters.
Titanic
If the true story of The Titanic wasn’t enough to make you cry, then the movie based on the ill-fated ship's maiden voyage will definitely make you an emotional wreck. Jack and Rose would never have met if they both hadn’t found themselves on The Titanic. After quickly developing a deep romantic connection, the famous iceberg appears and takes their love story down a very different road. The infamous door moment is still one that makes a lot of people cry no matter how many times they’ve seen it.
